CFC Chair, USA Leaders Meet with Archbishop of Atlanta
Wednesday, February 26, 2014
Couples for Christ (CFC) International Council Chairman, Ricky and Irma Cuenca during their pastoral visit to Georgia, together with Roy and Claire Reynes (left), CFC Area Servant Leader of the State of Georgia and Gilbert and Gail Banzon (right), CFC Unit Servant Leaders of East Georgia had a surprise and short notice invitation to meet the Most Reverend Wilton D. Gregory of the Archdiocese of Atlanta last February 25, 2014 at the Archdiocese main office in Smyrna, Georgia.  The meeting was very blissful and casual, where Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory, after the exchange of cordial greetings, opened the conversation about his Doctorate studies with Bishop Anscar Chupungco as his mentor, the Filipino Benedictine Monk and a Faculty of Pontifical Institute of Liturgy in Rome.  He also indicated that he went to the Philippines in January 1995 in the campaign against proliferation of pornography around the world.

Ricky Cuenca started giving the overview of CFC, which is now in 104 countries and the Family Ministries, which covers CFC from womb to tomb: CFC Kids for Christ (KFC), CFC Youth for Christ (YFC), CFC Singles for Christ (SFC), CFC Handmaids of the Lord(HOLD) and CFC Servants of the Lord (SOLD).

“CFC made sure that no one escapes,” Archbishop Gregory joked good-naturedly.  Irma Cuenca continued to introduce CFC ANCOP (Answering the Cry of the Poor) and how it spread to other countries, like India and South Africa for example.  Gilbert Banzon also mentioned the Gift of Life (GOL) ministry.  Archbishop Gregory, with a serious face, responded that this is great work, because it supports his campaign of pro-life in Atlanta.

Archbishop Gregory expressed his affirmation of the work of CFC and was very pleased to hear the report from Roy Reynes regarding the new CFC recognition received from the Archdiocese of Savannah, and the partnership of CFC in the parishes of the Archdiocese of Atlanta, as reported also by Gilbert Banzon.

His Excellency encouraged CFC toa five-year plan to support the Archdiocese in bringing back Families to Church. Ricky Cuenca likewise invited him to the Eucharistic Congress in Cebu City, Philippines in October 2016.  “As long as it doesn’t conflict with my work here in Atlanta, I will consider going back, especially that you invited Pope Francis personally,” Archbishop Gregory replied, with a smile.

At the end of the meeting, he gave everyone a blessing and gave his visitors the assurance of his support to Couples for Christ and its ministries in his Archdiocese.
