CFC NegOcc celebrates 30 years
Wednesday, November 29, 2017

About 6,500 CFC and Family Ministries members gathered at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum on Sunday, November 12, 2017 to celebrate CFC Negros Occidental’s pearl anniversary (30 years).

CFC members drove in a caravan from the Capitol Lagoon passing through the heart of the city and ending at La Salle. CFC members waved their respective banners to the crowd gathered along the roads. At the coliseum, a number of booths had been set up and members had a wonderful time going around the booths, trying out the different perya games. Onstage, an opening production from the CFC Area Governance Team performing Bacolod's famous Masskara Dance welcomed the crowd. Egay Hechanova, CFC North A Sector Head, led the opening worship while Bebot Caceres, Provincial Area Director for CFC Negros Occidental, delivered his opening remarks, and gave a run down of the program, including the installation of new CFC leaders, the highlight of the celebrations.

Performances from different sectors followed, each showcasing their best talents. George Miravite, newly-appointed Provincial Area Head of CFC Negros Occidental, then delivered his anniversary message. He said, "Couples for Christ is bound by one Mission and Vision. We are all looking at one God. Like a rainbow, CFC Negros is also bound together by unity."

The food festival held outside the coliseum grounds showcased the best foods and delicacies Negros has to offer. In the closing worship, Hernan Chua, CFC Negros Occidental Big South Sector Head, exhorted everyone, "We’ve had our ups and downs but the Lord is always with us." Steve Maningat, CFC Regional and Visayas Island Coordinator, using the song "You've Got a Friend" as a handle, sang it together with the entire assembly. He emphasized that a CFC member is not just a friend but the best friend one can ever have.

The Holy Mass, the highlight of the anniversary, was celebrated by the Most Rev. Patricio Buzon, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Bacolod, with eight priests coming from the different parishes of Negros Occidental concelebrating. In his homily, Bishop Buzon emphasized, "Our faith should be totally in God and our lives should be in total surrender to Him."

Caceres presented one by one all the new leaders of CFC Negros Occidental and the new structure. The members extended their hands as they were being prayed over by CFC President Michael “Shok” Ariola, together with Maningat and Miravite. Ariola in his anniversary message, encouraged all CFC to make their families a symbol of how good God is to the world. He added, "For as long as we remain in Christ, He will also remain in us." He challenged everyone to make sure that many will witness Jesus living in each one of them.Edgar Lopez, CFC North B Sector Head, led the praisefest, reminding CFC that what matters in this world is not about what one has but what one holds in his heart.

Part of the anniversary celebration was the 3rd Bowling Tournament held at Goldenfield Bacolod Bowling Area on November 5, 2017 participated in by CFC and the Family Ministries.(April Dawn Gabrido)
