Couples for Christ Batangas recently celebrated 30 years of God’s faithfulness and providence with a two-part celebration—the Pearl Ball held on Nov. 3 and the main anniversary celebration held on Nov. 5.The Pearl Ball, attended by CFC local leaders, members of the CFC Batangas Mission Core, and International Council members, began with a formal thanksgiving dinner. Among the highlights of the Pearl Ball was the recognition of past Area Governance Teams, including the one who started it all in Batangas, the late Joey Arguelles. The Arguelles family received a plaque of recognition for Joey’s exemplary leadership and unwavering service that paved the way for the growth, nourishment and maturity of CFC Batangas.

“My father is now in a better place to pray for all of us… to intercede for our community,” expressed Joy Arguelles-Gool, who with her mother Tess gratefully received the award.Former leaders of CFC Batangas who are now in different parts of the world also shared their thoughts, memories of their governance and warm greetingsthrough recorded videos.

“Sana po ay patuloy tayong magamit ng ating Panginoong Diyos sa gawaing paglilingkod at ebanghelisasyon, magmahal sa ating kapwa at lalong umunlad sa pananampalataya.. Magpasalamat tayo sa Diyos sa pagbibigay nya ng mga biyaya sa loob ng mahabang panahon gayun din ang mga pagsubok na kung saan ay lalo tayong kumakapit saKanya,”shared Arnel Arce, a former AGT member who is now residing in the US.Held at the Batangas City Convention Center, the ball was indeed a night of thanksgiving for God’s wonderful gift, the gift of the Couples for Christ community in the province. It was a festive evening of victories, love and faith. The night concluded with a series of spectacular presentations from each cluster, including one from the AGT.

On November 5, 2017, CFC Batangas held its whole day anniversary celebration at the De La Salle Lipa Sentrum. Almost 3,000 members gath-ered to celebrate God’s 30 years of faithfulness to the community. “The way to see the good that we’ve done in the community is the same way to see the good we’ve done in our lives—just look at the ways of our children,” shared Joe Yamamoto in his anniversary message. He added, “It is such a wonderful sight to see you here today, families singing, dancing, praising God and standing firm in the faith, particularly in the Catholic faith.”

Members from different clusters brought their sumptuous home-cooked “baon” for everyone to partake and share. The feast was enlivened by the superb performances of The Voice - CFC Batangas Edition contenders. Joel Alcaraz of North Cluster was hailed as the grand champion. The activity also featured a day-long bloodletting activity in partnership with the Batangas Medical Center (BatMC). A total of 52 blood bags were collected by the end of the celebration. The last part of the anniversary celebration, the Holy Mass, was presided by the Most Reverend Archbishop Gilbert A. Garcera. In his homily the archbishop said, “Wala tayong karapatang tawaging Couples for Christ ‘pag wala tayong kaugnayan kay Jesus, kaugnayan sa Papa, sa Arsobispo at mga pari… gayundin kung hindi tayo nagdadasal, nagsisimba at nananalangin bilang pamilya.”

The archbishop also shared that “Sa Amoris Laetitia, isang dokumentong para sa atin,The Joy of Love, sinasabi ni Papa Franciscona ang “Domestic Church”, kayo, ay hindi lamang kayu-kayo bagkus kinakailangang lumabas kayo sa grupo ninyong Couples for Christ. At ako’y natutuwa sapagkat merong Couples for Christ tulad niyo with no boundaries.”

“It is our hope that we will be blessed with more years of serving God and our community. We are writing history and co-creating a better community for the next generation,” exhorted Dante Ilagan, the current Provincial Area Director of Batangas during his closing message. (Gerlie K. Alcoriza)
