WHY WALK THE EXTRA MILE? Annual Walk for a Cause Launched
Monday, June 5, 2017

THE 2017 ANCOP Global Walk was officially launched during the Metro Manila Mission Core Assembly last May 7, 2017 at the Ynares Sports Arena, Pasig City.

During  the  launch,  testimonies from some of those involved in AGW centered  on their heartwarming memories and experiences from  the annual event.

Neth Logapo, an active participant of  the  AGW,  shared  her family’s fascinating journey. Her husband Joseph left his job to become a full time vendor since he can provide for their family more through selling peanuts. It was a  difficult situation for them but through the Lord’s grace, their livelihood prospered. From an initial 5, they now have 50 retailers selling peanuts. They may not be  earning much, just enough, but this has never hindered them from helping scholars through the ANCOP Global Walk.

Since Joseph and Neth became CFC members in  2012, they have been faithful in attending the event, determined to do their share to help young people who aspire for a good education and a better future.

Neth shared, “Naniniwala po kami na ang hanapbuhay namin ay biyaya ng Panginoon. Kaya  kung  may  nangangailangan, kailangan tumulong.” (We believe that our small business is a blessing from God. So if there is someone in need, then we need to help).

Shayne  Santos, an  AGW scholar from Cavite who graduated from college with flying colors, recounted her struggles before she became a scholar. People around her discouraged her from accepting the scholarship, saying that she won’t be able to make it and that she will never get her college degree. But she persevered, motivated by her parents’ belief in her.

This year’s event head is Bboy Arguelles, Sector Head of Metro Manila Central A. He pointed out that love is the reason why people from all over the world are doing the walk, for love knows no limits and boundaries. Arguelles exhorted, “Our love should always  be encompassing, our love should always be a giving of ourselves.”

Arguelles likewise mentioned that the AGW is not just an activity or an event. Rather, it is an advocacy for education and for the future of the children of the poor - that everyone should embrace.

“I believe we in CFC, first and foremost, are family. We are families helping other families come closer to God,” Arguelles added.

“We  always refer to the ANCOP Global Walk as a means  of helping families  move  out from poverty. But I believe  it has to be much more than this. We are giving back to the families their dignity, which are rightfully theirs, being the sons and daughters of God.”

The immediate goal of AGW is togive even just one child from every family the opportunity to get a college degree, and, with this, the right to secure employment that will allow them to get their families out of poverty.

This year’s theme for  the  AGW, “Extra Mile for Love”, is a call for all to share in the same advocacy. It is a reminder that giving of one’s self totally is a precious gift. (Diana Mendoza)
