Global Day of Service 9: Beyond Borders Family Edition

LAST September 29 and 30, the CFC Kids for Christ ministry, together with Couples for Christ, initiated the 9th Global Day of Service (GDS) with the theme “Beyond Borders Family Edition”. The GDS is KFC’s work that responds to CFC’s Mission of ‘Building the Church of the Home and Building the Church of the Poor’.

The weekend event brought CFC families to what Pope Francis called the peripheries of society, the poor, where God’s love is not easily manifest. KFC members together with their families were challenged to go out of their comfort zones and share Christ’s joy by doing the 7 corporal works of mercy: feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, visit the sick, visit the imprisoned, and bury the dead.

In Zamboanga Sibugay, a CFC chapter gathered 16 couples, 11 KFC members and three families.

The Bullecer couple, KFC Chapter Coordinators, made sure everyone in their family joined in with the mother, a HOLD member, serving alongside them.

They identified five households where the sick elderly lived, abandoned by relatives in their run down homes. Together as a CFC chapter, they visited these households and shared care packages full of clothes, toiletries, and some food.

The kids and their families also prayed over the sick and old people after interacting with them. The activity was made special when the beneficiaries prayed over the kids and families.

The group was moved to tears as they felt the Holy Spirit’s presence during the pray over.

Elsewhere in the Philippines and the world, families performed other acts of kindness. By doing a simple act of mercy, the kids learned how to be compassionate and understood mercy the way Jesus taught it. Together with their families, these children become world changers in their own little ways. Families always look forward to the annual Global Day of Service.

All 12 Sectors in Metro Manila and more than 40 Provinces observed the Global Day of Service 2018, and countries and regions like Canada, the Middle East, Mauritius & Australia likewise took part in the event. (Julius Barbas KFC Fulltime Pastoral Worker, Zamboanga City)
