CFC Calgary Donates to Retired Priests of the Diocese, ANCOP

THE leaders of Couples for Christ Calgary met with His Excellency Bishop William Mc- Grattan on September 4, 2018 at the Diocese office to present a cheque of donation amounting to $7,296.

The said amount was half of the net proceeds from the successful “Love More Benefit Concert” which raised funds for the housing of the retired priests of the Diocese of Calgary. The other half of the proceeds was given to ANCOP Area Coordinators Ernie and Beng Cancio for ANCOP Canada.

During the meeting, the Bishop shared important information regarding programs and future plans for the retired priests. Fr. Adrian Martens, Vicar for Lay associations was also present.

The “Love More Benefit Concert” was organized by Chapter North A1 headed by Ronnel Apil in partnership with Fr. John Pinto and Christ’s Own People Production. It was held on July 14, 2018 at St. Thomas More Parish.

The concert was the brainchild of Carlos O. Perez, CFC Calgary Church Relations Coordinator and founder of Christ’s Own People Production.

Perez offered ten of his original songs for this concert, three of which (God Is Faithful, God Is Good, This Is Our Way Of Life) were winners in the 2013 First North America CFC Glory Songwriting Contest. They were interpreted by Laurie and Leah Callao and Franz Faeldo.

Other talents featured in the concert were 17-year-old Olin Molina (for her own composition “Lift You Higher); Denniela Quebec, who did a ballet number; and CFC Youth members Joanna Albino, Sharon Perez, Sabrina Yepes, Aya Mamenta, Jheanna Antasuda, Cassie Kee, Jovina Pagente, Edwin Mari Manalastas, Reymon Gumangan, and Delrey Gumangan.

Guest of honor Bishop Emeritus Frederick Henry delivered a very timely message to the audience about the retired priests.

After his speech, Manny Canete, CFC Calgary sector head prayed over the guest clergy which included Bishop Eugene Cooney, Fr. Rudy Badiola, Fr. Bill Trienekens, Fr. Arjay Abanto, Fr. Rodel Abanto, Fr. John Pinto and Fr. Godwin Pinto. (Ehlla Albino & Carlos O. Perez)
