Mission Core reminded: love without bitterness, give with forgiveness

The Metro Manila Mission Core, for its March gathering on March 4, chose to reflect on the Lenten Season via a recollection. The MCG (Mission Core Gathering) was held at the St. Paul Auditorium in Pasig City.

Recollection facilitator Msgr. Allen Aganon, the CFC Spiritual Director, focused on what happened when Jesus prayed in Gethsemane.

“Reflecting on Jesus’ own prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, we can learn from His example in the moments before his passion and death on how to love and forgive,” Msgr. Aganon said.

The Mission Core was asked to reflect on the situations and circumstances that call them to give more and to love more, which, for Msgr. Aganon, is natural for humans. He said, “What could be difficult is when we give our all and sometimes expect something in return. This is not what happened in the Garden of Gethsemane. This is not who Jesus is.”

Although Jesus did not want to face pain and agony, He chose obedience to His Father over His own will. Jesus accepted everything with a warm and forgiving heart. Msgr. Aganon said, “This is what the Lord is asking of us in this Lenten season: We are loving people, self-giving people, but can we go beyond that? Can we love? Can we give as a real lover without bitterness in our hearts? Can we go through this pain, these difficulties in life with a forgiving heart?”

“Let us pray for this, brothers and sisters. It is always a challenge. It is always a test. It is more about loving without bitterness and resentment, and giving with forgiveness,” he concluded. (Yvonne Dolorosa)
