26 Out-of-School Youth Finish ANCOP One-Year Vocational Course in Kenya

November 22, 2017 was a momentous day for 26 out-of-school youth in Nairobi, Kenya who graduated from a one-year vocational course in Food and Nutrition (Hotel, nRestaurant and Entrepreneurship) offered by the Franciscan sisters in collaboration with ANCOP CANADA.

The theme during the commencement exercises was “Perseverance in Pursuing our Dreams.”Sr. Esperanza Paraggua, Principal of SFIC, rallied the graduates to continue reaching for their dreams, to be the best in everything that they do and to continuously improve their craft.Malou Clarito, CFC fulltime pastoral worker and currently in charge of the Child Sponsorship Program in Africa, who was present during the event, recalled the providential event that led to the graduation. When CFC Kenya was having their 2016 planning at the hall of the Franciscan Sisters, she noted the activity of the Teresia Van Miert Development Center in the adjoining and became curious about what the program offers.

Several discussions later, ANCOP CANADA signed an Agency Agreement with the Franciscan Sisters to help young people reach for their dreams. For many, the course is indeed the pathway to their dreams. In fact, two of the graduates were employed long before graduation day. The event ended with dancing to the African beat and a sumptuous lunch. Another batch of students will be sponsored this year. Through the generous help of the individual and corporate donors of ANCOP Canada, more and morechildren will be able to make their dreams a reality. (Malou Clarito – CFC Canada; excerpted from
