YFC SEALS—A first

October 20 to 22, 2017 marked a historical event for the YFC Southeast Asia region as top leaders of the area came together for the first time and celebrated the inaugural YFC South-east Asia Leaders Summit (SEALS), held in Singapore. Echoing the Global Leaders Summit, the SEALS took on the theme “Trailblaze” and truly lived up to its name, marking not only the first-ever event of its kind for the region, but also a weekend that fired up and set the trail blazing for the future of YFC in Southeast Asia.

The days leading up to the weekend also paved the way for a trailblazing time with the new International Family Ministries’ Coordinator Lawrence Quintero. Hisinaugural visit to the sunny island included sessions with the YFC leaders and SFC leaders from Singapore, culminating with an evening of fellowship with the Family Ministry Coordinators of CFC Singapore.

Led by the YFC Southeast Asia Regional Coordina-tor Chingboi Laruan, the weekend saw leaders and coordinators from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Indonesia gathering to experience God’s amazing grace through a spirit-filled and jampacked weekend. It also marked a special moment for the new YFC International Coordinator Jeremy Quimpang, who made his first overseas trip since being appointed. He was joined by his wife Ninay and fellow fulltime pastoral missionaries from Manila and Indonesia.

The trailblazing adventure began on Friday, October 20 as participants gathered to hear more of the YFC Ministry and Advocacy updates. They then proceeded to the newly-revamped Revolution of the Uplifting of the Poor (REV-UP) advocacy workshop and “I Witness” where participants lived out being and bringing Christ wherever they were through Acts of Radical Kindness (ARK). Soon after, the participants took in the sights and sounds of Singapore, ending the evening with fellowship with dinner and a light show at the iconic Marina Bay Sands.

Day 2 continued with the participants experiencing the first session and realizing ultimately that life with Christ is indeed a great adventure.

There were also workshops like Visioning and PFO Basics, equipping the participants to take on the fullness of the mission. The participants later gathered at the neighboring parish of Immaculate Heart of Mary for Holy Mass. The night ended with a Coordinators workshop and the revamped Kristogram V 2.0 workshop. Day 3 saw the participants attending a Mentoring workshop and listening to the final session, with the speaker exhorting and reminding everyone why they are called to Trailblaze.

It was a very fitting way of ending the SEALS weekend. It was a weekend of many firsts, and having already started in that light, the future continues to look bright for YFC in Southeast Asia. (Patrick Elicano)
