YFC Holds Simultaneous Metro Manila and Regional Conferences

Nearly 20,000 Youth for Christ members from all over Metro Manila and the different regions in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao held their Regional Youth Conference on October 28-29.This year’s theme, “Fight the Good Fight of Faith” was anchored on 1 Timothy 6:12: Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

The central message of this conference is to be rooted in God so that each person may claim his identity as a beloved child of God and embrace how he or she can live out the faith boldly. The conference was composed of three sessions. Session 1, titled “I am God's Beloved”, reminded the delegates of their anointing and true identity as sons and daughters of God and why they should embrace this identity fully. The session also made each each one aware of how they can imitate Jesus and Mary's examples through the four cardinal virtues. The second session, “I Am Catholic”, gave ten great reasons to be Catholic. The talk exhorted everyone to know the basics of our Catholic faith, to understand the beauty of our faith as Catholic men and women, and to live out our faith through the teachings of the Catholic Church.

The last session titled “I Declare Christ” affirmed the delegates that they too can be like Timothy, young yet brave. The speaker encouraged everyone to look on their identity as beloved children of God, as Catholic men and women, as Youth for Christ. The session ended with the recitation of an oath of declaration to God and His people, as a response to His call.

The conference was energized by the praise and worship ses-sions held all throughout the event, with thousands of hands raised and young people shouting their praises and honor for the Almighty Father. The conference offered ten different workshops, namely: Post Jesus (Social Media), Three Stars and a Sun (Patriotism), I Witness: A Heart in Hand (Corporal Works of Mercy), Beyond Border Mission (Missionary), Ako Mismo (Self-identity), You Speak (Catechism), Happy Holy Healthy (Health in Mission), Kasangga (Mentoring), Into the Light (Visioning), and Share Joy (Counseling), the last one of which was designed for the YFC Couple Coordinators. In addition to their involvement in the sessions and workshops, YFC and Couple Coordinators were also given the chance to showcase their talents through various competitions namely Couple Coordinators Got Talent, Dance, Battle of the Bands, and Show Choir.

The conferences around the country ended with awarding of winners in the competitions, worship and fellowship.YFC await with hopeful anticipation what is in store for them next year as the ministry celebrates its 25th anniversary.(Jeremy Quimpang)
