South B Celebrates with the Clergy

South B has always enjoyed warm relationship with the clergy. This was once again proven last October 19 when South B, still in keeping with its 21st anniversary theme of “A New Springtime,” organized the first Clergy Appreciation Night for the diocese of Parañaque’s clergy. The event was held at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Center, Presentation of the Child Jesus Parish, Parañaque City.Special guest was His Excellency, Most Reverend Jesse E. Mercado, D.D., Bishop of Parañaque.

Bishop Jesse expressed his profound gratitude and admiration for the CFC thrust to be one with the Catholic Church and to be supportive of the clergy and consecrated persons in the work of the parishes. Bishop Jesse said that before, people went to Church simply to “pray and pay”. This is in contrast to today when the laity is much more open to work with the clergy. He added that the clergy should thank and appreciate lay people such as CFC for this new way of thinking.Bishop Jesse mentioned the Parish Pastoral Accompaniment Program (PPAP), which, in the South B sector, is being actively pursued at the Mary Help of Christians Parish, through Jun and Malou Reformado, members of the sector’s Clergy Relations Office. This program is being proposed to other chapters as a means to gateway evangelization.

Worship was led by Raymond Bucu, Head of Evangelization and Missions - External who very ably and joyfully set the tone for the night’s Spirit-filled fellowship among the priests and the sector leaders. The dinnertime serenade was provided by the sector music ministry, led by South B Music Ministry head Gabby Ocampo, who performed oldies but goodies hit songs from the Beatles, Cascades and others.

Rene Bello, Pastoral Formation Office Head for South B, introduced the work of CFC to the priests present. South B Sector Head, Barry Tad-y, presented the CFC Overview—the community’s history, vision and mission, its organizational structure and the parishes covered by the sector. He mentioned that CFC has Vatican recognition as a Private International Association of the Faithful and a CFC Office is now being maintained in Rome.

Tad-y emphasized the sector’s firm commitment to be of service to the Church. The sector leaders were presented by Ricky Chuaunsu, Head, Evangelization and Missions - Internal, who was also Master of Ceremonies of the program. More fun followed with Harris Jacildo and Derrick Aguilar leading the fellowship. Both the clergy and CFC had fun enjoying the games, as well as the dancing that capped the night.

George Campos, CFC Head of the Church Relations Office, closed the joyful occasion with a prayer with Bishop Jesse imparting his blessings for everyone. Simple personalized souvenirs were distributed to the clergy who responded, by way of “Thank You", by singing an impromptu song. It was truly an enjoyable experience. This was the first Clergy Appreciation Night. Hopefully more appreciation nights will follow to further cement the sector’s relationship with the clergy.(Willie and Winnie Madarang)
