CAVITE CFC VISITS BJMP INMATES

Cavite Social Development head Pons Gutierrez, a member of the Cavite Provincial Area Core, recently reported on the activities of their province’s Isaiah 61:1 or the Prison Ministry. The members of the Cavite Mission Core donated assorted personal hygiene goods like toothpaste, shampoo, towels and laundry. The items were distributed by the Prison Ministry volunteers to the inmates of the jails in the cities and towns of Cavite, namely Bacoor, Dasmarinas, Silang, Carmona and General Mariano Alvarez GMA). This activity was done in coordination with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology of the Provincial and Local Governments in the above mentioned towns and cities.

The inmates joyfully received the personal toiletries, exclaiming, “Wow, hulog ng Diyos ito!”.The Prison Ministry of the province, together with the Social Development Core members of Cavite, also conducted medical/dental missions to the prison sites over the past three months. With the blessing and cooperation of Rev Fr. Manny Villas of the Imus Diocesan Prison Desk, the volunteers, led by CFC ANCOP medical mission team composed of eight doctors and eight dentists, visited the Tagaytay City Jail, and the General Trias and GMA jails.

The mission team treated more than 150 dental cases and more than 300 medical cases in each of the three prison sites, for a total of 1,300 cases. The Couples for Christ Cavite Community is an accredited provider of volunteer services to five major BJMP facilities in Cavite. Part of their service is the holding of anticipated Holy Masses every Saturday to address the need of the inmates for spiritual upliftment. Ramon de Leon, the recently appointed CFC Social Development Project Head, noting these activities, said that “the Cavite prison project of doing service to the inmates is much like a visit to our Lord Jesus in prison as he often reminds us with the verse: ‘I was in prison and you visited me... Whatever you did for the least of my brethren, you did it to me.’

CFC Isaiah 61:1 national head Jaycee de La Cruz, in the recent Isaiah planning session, declared the full support of the Prison Ministry to the 30th Prison Awareness Sunday celebration on Oct 29. He also reiterated that in 2018, the ministry’s goal is to “fully support and af-firm the option for life and to work for justice that heals.” (CFC Cavite Soc Dev Programs)
