35 Home Partners Receive Homes in Buguey

“Masaya po, kasi mas safe na po yung titirhan naming bahay. Nagpapasalamat po kami sa mga tumulong sa amin.” (We are happy because we now have a safe place we can call home. We are very grateful to those who have helped us.) This was what Margie Mirafuente, an officer in the ANCOP community's Samahan (homeowners association), shared after her family was awarded one of the 35 houses at the CFC-Mississauga West ANCOP-Canada Tambuli Community. The latest ANCOP community stands on a 2-hectare land in Villa Leonora, Buguey, Cagayan.

The turnover ceremonies took place last September 9, 2017. The Local Government of Buguey and officials in Villa Leonora expressed their gratitude to the CFC ANCOP, specifically their donors from Canada, who generously gave of their resources to build homes for those in need. Ricky Cuenca, a member of the CFC International Council and the current CFC ANCOP Canada President, inspired the home partners by encouraging them to always keep their faith and to always pray for their donors as much as they pray for them.

It was an emotional day as well for the home partners, as most of them who had been living in houses made of nipa, bamboo and light materials would now be living in concrete houses in an organized community.

Cecilia Pagador, Head of the Shelter program in Cagayan, narrated, “Kasi kung makikita mo yung mga bahay nila, they were not even houses, but looked more like temporary shelters. Mahirap kapag umuulan o bumabagyo kasi hindi safeang tinitirhan nila kasi nipa.” (If you saw their houses before they moved here, you cannot even call them houses. It was hard for them especially during the rainy or typhoon season because the houses they used to live in were made of nipa.) The new homes, she added, were truly blessings from the faithful Lord. The new homeowners spent their first day in the community with a simple salu-salo hosted by ANCOP and the association. The following day, September 10, the ANCOP mission team proceeded to Gonzaga, another town in Cagayan, for the Christian Life Program (CLP) Orientation where Cuenca explained the essence of the CLP and encouraged the attendees to rekindle their faith in the Lord.
