SFC World GAT: Extending Christ’s Love to the Ends of the Earth

CFC Singles for Christ held its annual World Great Adventure Tour (WGAT) last August 8-22, 2017, visiting areas in Metro Manila and the Bicol Region. SFC members from the Philippines and from various countries participated in this activity. This year, SFC’s WGAT focused on CFC’s mission of “Building the Church of the Poor”. The tour was not just about seeing the beautiful sceneries in the Philippines, but about helping the less fortunate in all the areas that they visited. Their itinerary included: ANCOP Community Immersion, Parish Encounter, Interaction with Juvenile Detainees (prison visit), Cornerstone (elementary and high school students’ tutorial and leadership program), CFC Project ReForm (program for recovering substance abusers) and visits to pilgrimage and historical sites.

A WGAT first-timer, Julie Anne Reyes from Singles for Christ USA, found the experience intense, humbling and fun. Although she has only been in SFC for a year, she attended the WGAT to understand more about‘service’ in the community. She confessed that her expectations of the tour included the fun events of fellowship and immersion but more importantly, her desire to “spend time finding Christ in others and helping those who need help by giving my time.”

The excitement of meeting new people and learning new things were some of the reasons that Dennis Mirandilla, SFC Bahrain, attended the WGAT. His expectations included deepening his faith and appreciating the vision and mission of CFC Singles for Christ. At the end of the tour, Dennis found that the World GAT fulfilled his expectations and gave him a “great experience”.

Also joining the WGAT were Filipino members of SFC. One of them, Addy Parreño, from SFC Metro Manila and now in his second year as SFC members saw WGAT as something amazing, awesome and exciting. “This is why I grabbed the opportunity to be a part of this annual event.”

This year’s SFC WGAT took its inspiration from Acts 2:42-47:"They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and posses-sions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke breading their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." (Yvonne Grace Dolorosa)
