Families Celebrate Marriage and the Family

TO STAND firm in the faith is to stand strong with the Lord, not just as couples, but together as a family. But in today’s world, the family is faced with a barrage of attacks, defamations and falsehoods that tend to undermine its sanctity and value.

CFC Metro Manila, through Mike Bukuhan, the newly-appointed Metro Manila Missions Director, and Rommel Ancheta, head of the CFC Young Couples Program, spearheaded the celebration of “MARRIAGE IS BEAUTIFUL: Families are Forever” last Sunday, February 26, 2017, at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.

More than 3,000 individuals—parents, children, grandparents, and even single people—came to proclaim to the world that marriage is very much in, and that God’s design for the family is truly worth defending.

His Excellency, the Most Reverend Jessie Mercado, Bishop of the Diocese of Parañaque, celebrated the Mass which opened the event. In his homily, Bishop Mercado encouragedthe families present to “Take the time to know one another. Share what you have in order to make the other grow. Allow fire to purify you. Love each other during high moments as well as low. There is meaning in both. Trust in God. All these make marriage beautiful.”

Before the final blessing, Robert Labayen, Sector Head of Metro Manila South A, led all the fathers to consecrate their families to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, as February has been declared the month of consecration of families.

Afterwards, the participants trooped to their workshop of choice.

The following were the workshops offered at the event:

Workshop 1: Joint workshop for husbands and wives

Speakers: Raymond Daniel H. Cruz Jr. and Maria Asuncion Abiva-Cruz

A firm marriage and a Christ-centered family can be a powerful force that can encourage others to practice the gospel values through the beauty of the relationships within the family and with others outside of it. It takes the exclusive and correlative relationship of the husband and wife to make this happen. It is also done through commitment in defending marriage and the family in spite of the different struggles couples may face.

Workshop 2: Workshop on parenting teens and having conversations with them regarding sex and chastity

Speakers: Joy and Aldy Katigbak

Conversations about sex often leave parents tongue-tied and ill-equipped to tackle this most important topic. This workshop gave parents the language, practical guidelines and tips on raising their children to be chaste and truly free, based on the teachings of the Church and the Theology of the Body.

Workshop 3: Sizzling in your 60’s - Workshop for Seniors

Speaker: Dr. Grace Pasigan

This workshop showed participants how to rekindle the fire and passion in their marriage by defying age stereotypes and learning how to age together graciously and adventurously.

Workshop 4: Workshop for the youth on love and chastity

Speaker: Jaymee Pantaleon

This workshop showed how a life of chastity is the only way to find the true love that hearts long for.

Workshop 5: Workshop for seniors on keeping memories alive

Speaker: Cheridine Oro Josef

Our lives are always worth remembering. In this workshop, participants learned the difficulties of dementia and how families can support loved ones who have it. It also showed ways to prevent this condition.

Workshop 6: Things To Do Before “I Do” - workshop for engaged couples on wedding preparation

Speakers: Noli and Sam Manuel

In this workshop, engaged couples learned the ins and outs of cost-efficient budgeting and preparation for the most-awaited day of their lives.

Workshop 7: KIDS ACADEMY

This workshop was a fun and exciting activity for kids (junior and senior kids) who got a chance to learn a dance and join in the kids praise at the latter part of the program.

At the end of the workshops, the families who attended came out of SMX with the renewed conviction to further deepen their relationships within, radiate the love to other families and have the boldness to proclaim that indeed, marriage is beautiful and families are forever. (CFC Global Comm)
