CFC ANCOP USA TO EMBARK ON DRUG REHABILITATION PROGRAM IN PHILIPPINES

The global family renewal movement Couples for Christ in the United states and its work for the poor arm, Answering the Cry of the Poor (ANCOP UsA), are currently working on a partnership arrangement with two Catholic priests in the Philippines and retired US military doctors from Washington D.C. headed by Dr.  Carol McMaki to help in the detoxification stage of a 5-step drug rehabilitation program now being implemented in Caloocan City.

This was announced by roger santos, executive Director, ANCOP UsA. The program is called ‘Healing Not Killing.’

“We thought of this project in our desire to help those, mostly poor, who have come out and admitted their addiction, to get healed and to return to their communities with self-worth and as useful members again,” said Santos, a former TOfA-NY awardee for community activities.

In a sharing at a Mission Core (MC) assembly of CFC leaders at the Ateneo high school last September 4, 2016, Fr. Luciano Felloni, an Argentinian priest who oversees the rehabilitation project in his parish in Caloocan City, described the program as “home-based” and will last for 3 to 6 months for each participant.

He also discussed the 5-stage program in the same gathering.

Fr. Gerald Saco, Jr. of Maribojoc, Bohol is the other priest who will start the pilot program in his province.

Santos also said a fundraising campaign for the drug rehabilitation program will be launched as soon as the partnership is firmed up. (ANCOP USA Communications)
