PONDERINGS: Come and You Will See
SCRIPTURE READING: John 1:35-42 (The First Disciples)

FOCUS: Verses 38 - 39: They said to Him, “Rabbi, where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they went and saw where He was staying, and they stayed with Him that day.

PERSONAL PONDERINGS:
Jesus did not answer the question, “Rabbi, where are you staying?” Rather, He issued an invitation to them, “Come and you will see.”
  • COME was His invitation towards a relationship.
  • YOU WILL speaks of certainty of a promise
  • YOU WILL SEE is a step towards the unfolding of a revelation (not of His dwelling place—but of HIMSELF)
The length of time they stayed with Him due to the restrictions on travel on Sabbath was an occasion for strengthening and deepening of the relationship that was newly formed.
Jesus is not interested on mere, casual relationships. When He draws them to intimacy and personal revelation, as He invited His first disciples to a relationship with Him more than 2,000 years ago—so does He issue forth the same holy invitation to me! This is my moment! This is my time! He desires to draw me closer to Himself. However, He does not force me nor pin me down. He eagerly but patiently waits for me to respond to His call. And my response? “YES, LORD! I will come and meet with you at daily Mass!" But I need your help to be faithful to this promise. So help me God!

PRAYER:
Holy Spirit, make me hunger and thirst for Jesus. Please satisfy and fill up this hunger and thirst through my daily reception of the Eucharist. Amen

DISCUSSION STARTER:
  1. God sound of His call to each of us every moment. There is never a moment when He does not say, “COME!” When and how have you kept Jesus waiting for you?
  2. Consider this: We waste and allow precious moments to pass by waiting for red traffic light to turn green; for our turn to come in long grocery lines; for the hairdresser to finish the customer ahead of us, etc. How can you turn those precious moments to opportunities so you can open up new relationships, or deepen existing ones?
