Within 24 hours after Hurricane Sendong’s flash floods wrought havoc and death to over 1,000 people in Cagayan de Oro, Iligan and Dumaguete cities in southern Philippines last Dec. 16, CFC ANCOP USA, launched an on-line donation site at http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/roger-santos/sedongsvictim.
The campaign is solely aimed at helping the victims of the devastating floods in Mindanao, including some 400 members of Couples for Christ in Cagayan de Oro City.
Meanwhile, from Iligan CFC, Caloy Subang reported that of the 312 confirmed deaths in that city, 8 were CFC members.
Roger Santos, ANCOP USA Director, reported that as of Dec. 22, the ANCOP donation site has collected the equivalent of some P756,000 or $18,000.
In his initial email to ANCOP USA leaders, Dr. Joe Yamamoto, ANCOP Global Chairman, appealed to Couples for Christ (CFC)/ANCOP members and supporters in the U.S. He said, “Once again another calamity has befallen our country, including a good number of CFC brethren. The sudden flood and mudslides have inundated a large swath of Northern Mindanao, causing massive loss of life and property. The IC (CFC International Council) appeals to your generosity and kindness for help in these difficult times.”
The ANCOP Chairman also said, ”May Jesus, the reason for the Season, bless your kind hearts.”
In a statement after the site launching, Tony Ventura, ANCOP USA President, thanked the donors. He said, “God be praised for the generous response we are receiving from the CFC-USA/ANCOP community, in support of the Typhoon Sendong victims. I hope whatever resources we generate will help alleviate the pain & suffering, wrought by the devastating effects of this typhoon on the people of Cagayan de Oro & Iligan.”
In a separate mail to inform CFC ANCOP USA leaders and supporters, Ventura outlined the flow of collected Sendong funds from the US down to the field in the Philippines. His mail is as follows:
“Please note that we do have a Typhoon Sendong Relief effort being officially conducted by CFC in the Philippines. This is being done under the direction of Melo Villaroman, Jr – CFC International Council member & Executive Director.
“In the United States, CFC-USA & ANCOP-USA (AUSA) are officially receiving financial contributions for the Sendong victims, through the ANCOP-USA donation portal specifically intended for this purpose. All funds received through this portal are remitted to CFC-ANCOP-TEKTON (CFCAT), in the Philippines. CFCAT then turns over these funds (received from AUSA) to the official CFC Sendong Relief Team under Melo Villaroman, Jr. These funds are subsequently distributed or utilized, in a manner determined or prescribed by the official CFC Team. This is how the relief funds contributed by the CFC-USA members (through AUSA) are being handled currently, and AUSA holds itself accountable for all funds received through its portal.”
The ANCOP USA donation site shall be kept open until May 1, 2012.
